Former Florida State. South Carolina, and Daytona State College head coach Don Gibb has been hired as the head coach of the National Training Center in Clermont, Florida.

Editor’s Note: To clarify any confusion amongst international readers, this National Training Center is a private business, not a federation or government run center.

According to the Florida Swim Network, Gibb started work this week at the massive multi-sport athletics center connected to the South Lake Hospital. It includes a 70 meter x 25 yard pool and his host to the NTC Aquatics team and NTC Masters Team, in addition to swim lessons, water polo, and sports science testing.

Gibb’s footprint upon American, and especially Floridian, swimming is a large one. As an athlete, he was a five-time NCAA All-American for the University of Florida, and an SEC Champion in the 100 free, after training under Steve Bultman at the Pensacola Swim Club.

He then spent two years at Daytona Beach Community College for two years, before going on to swim under Randy Reese at Florida

His biggest coaching legacy is at Florida State, where he was twice the ACC Coach of the Year (1995 and 1998) and took Florida State to their only top 10 NCAA finish in school history.

He was most recently the head coach at Daytona Beach State College, a Junior College power that dropped its program after the 2012-2013 season.

The prior coach of NTC Aquatics, Ozzie Quevedo, left for an assistant coaching job at Auburn.

Among the top swimmers at NTC are versatile 16-year old Margaret Hohne, who swam at last December’s Winter Junior National Championships. She has been 1:53.0/4:59.7 in the 200 and 500 yard freestyles, a 2:02.2 in the 200 yard back, and a 2:04.8 in the 200 yard fly.

This team is truly lucky to have a coach like Gibb! He brings great knowledge and experience to his swimmers. Blessed to have been coached by him for one year at Daytona State before our team got cut.
