The Nevada Wolfpack rolled past Mountain West rival Boise State on Saturday, winning 12 of 16 events and advancing to 5-0 on the season. Sophomore transfer Ileah Doctor came up big for Nevada early in the meet, clocking a speedy 22.63 split to anchor the Nevada 200 medley relay to victory. Imogen Watson led that relay off in 26.22, and was followed by Donna dePolo with a quick 27.87 breaststroke, split, then a 24.18 fly split from Josien Wijkhuijs. The Wolpack clocked a 1:40.90 final time, which is their fastest of the season to this point. Doctor went on to win the 50 free individually in 23.74, touching as the only swimmer under 24 seconds in the field. She also helped the Nevada 400 free relay to victory with a 52.02 anchor split. Wijkhuijs led that relay off in 52.34, and was followed by Caitlyn McHugh in 52.42, and Andressa Cholodovskis in 51.54, combining for a 3:28.32 final time.

Wijkhuijs also won the 100 back and 100 fly, posting a season best in the 100 fly. First, she clocked a 56.74 in the 100 back, narrowly beating out Boise State’s Molly Hogg by .11 seconds. The pair went out virtually the same, with Hogg flipping at 27.32, and Wijkhuijs at 27.35. Wijkhuijs then out-split Hogg coming home, 29.39 to 29.53, edging her out at the finish. In the 100 fly, Wijkhuijs swam a 55.32, undercutting her previous best mark of the season by .16 seconds.

Cholodovskis won the 100 free and 200 free for Nevada. She posted a 51.64, winning the race by over a second, and splitting just .10 off her relay split later in the meet. In the 200 free, she swam a 1:51.00, again claering the field by over a second. Donna dePolo swam big season bests in both the breaststroke races, claiming victory in both. She first clocked a 1:01.67 in the 100 breast, taking .90 seconds off her previous fastest time of the season. She then dropped 2.57 seconds from her season best in the 200 breast, finishing in 2:15.75. Teammate Wiktoria Samula came in 2nd in both races, touching in 1:02.48 in the 100, and 2:17.89 in the 200.

RENO, Nev. – The Nevada swimming and diving team continues the success over the past few weeks with a big dual meet win over Mountain West foe, Boise State, 187-113. The Pack is now 5-0 in dual meets and 3-0 against conference opponents.

Nevada won 12 of the 16 events on the day including a 1-2-3 sweep of the 1-meter dive event and a 1-2-3-4 finish in the 200 breast that was led by junior Donna dePolo with a season best time of 2:15.75.

The morning started off quick with the 200 medley relay finishing first in 1:40.90, just one second off from the school record of 1:39.57; the second place finishing relay clocked in at 1:45.02. The winning relay was comprised of Imogen Watson, dePolo, Josien Wijkhuijs and Ileah Doctor.

Along with the medley relay win and the 200 breast win, dePolo also took the crown in the 100 breast with a season best time of 1:01.67 while teammate Wiktoria Samula finished second with a time of 1:02.48. Samula also took second in the 200 breast while Gianni Pitto took third and Mikayla Dance took fourth.

Wijkhuijs continued her streak in the 100 fly, finishing first with a time of 55.32 after she had already won the 100 back in 56.74. Along with her two individual wins, the sophomore also was a member of both winning relay teams including the 400 free relay that finished in 3:28.32. Caitlyn McHughAndressa Cholodovskis and Doctor were also members on the 400 free relay.

Cholodovskis took first in the 200 free with a time of 1:51.00 before she won the 100 free in 51.64. Doctor clinched her 50 free title with a time of 23.74 while Julia Adamczyk won the 200 fly in 2:07.47. Freshman Destiny Kling took second in the 200 fly with a season best time of 2:08.23.

In the diving events, Laura Isabel Vazquez Lopez won both events. In the 1-meter, the sophomore scored 321.23 while Linnea Sorensen took second with a score of 294.98 and freshman Jessie Nowotny tallied a 293.40. In the 3-meter, Lopez had the top score of 338.18 while Sorensen also took second with a 295.95 and Nowotny finished fourth with a 287.85.

Next for the Pack is the Phill Hansel Invitational, held and hosted by Houston in Houston, Texas beginning on Nov. 21 and concluding on Nov. 23.

 

PRESS RELEASE – BOISE STATE:

RENO, Nev. – Hayley Hill won the 500 and 1,000-yard freestyle races on Saturday to lead Boise State against Nevada, but in the end the Wolf Pack came away with a 187-113 victory. On the day, Boise State won four of the 16 events against Nevada as the Broncos moved to 3-2 in duals this fall.

Hill won both of her individual races clocking a 10:33.61 in the 1,000 free, then a 5:08.32 in the 500. Joining Hill on the victory stand Saturday were Molly Hogg who won the 200-yard backstroke with a time of 2:03.39 and Katie McCoy with a win in the 400-yard individual medley turning in a 4:26.56.

The Broncos placed second in eight races led by Lauren Vitort’s runner-up results in the 200 free (1:52.36) and the 100 free (52.87). Hogg placed second in the 100 back clocking a 56.85.

In the relays Boise State’s A team of Martina AndrasekCarly PalmerBeatriz Zoppei and Emmie Jennings took second in the 200-yard medley relay with a team-season-best time of 1:45.02.

The Broncos took second in the 400-yard freestyle relay when the A team of Palmer, Vitort, Madison Frederick and Robin Pinger swam a 3:30.03.

Boise State will be back in action Nov. 20-22 when the Broncos travel to the Mizzou Invite at Columbia, Mo.

  • 1,000-yard Freestyle – Boise State claimed three of the top-four places in the 1,000 free led by Hill who won the event … Lucia Davis (10:48.08) placed third while Ally Schultz (10:50.56) took fourth.
  • 200-yard Freestyle – Joining Vitort in the top-five was Emma Brady (1:55.92) who placed fourth.
  • 100-yard Backstroke – Hogg placed second and was joined by Madesyn Ronquillio (57.23) who came in fourth.
  • 100-yard Breaststroke – Pinger (1:06.12) and Palmer (1:06.68) took third and fourth, respectively.
  • 200-yard Butterfly – Boise State also took third and fourth in the 200 fly led by Brittany Wen (2:08.31) and Andrasek (2:09.77).
  • 1-Meter Springboard – Marti Erlam placed fourth with a 291.15, Tatum Thompkins (254.55) was fifth.
  • 100-yard Freestyle – Vitort placed second, followed by Jennings (52.90) in third.
  • 200-yard Backstroke – Hogg won the event with a 2:03.99, followed by Ronquillio (2:03.40) in second and Lauren Sale (2:04.00) in fourth.
  • 500-yard Freestyle – Hill claimed the title, but Brady (5:11.08) placed third.
  • 100-yard Butterfly – Zoppei (56.38) placed second, followed by Wen (58.31) and Jennings (58.91) in fourth and fifth.
  • 3-Meter Springboard – Erlam placed third with a 295.43, Thompkins (272.63) took fifth.
  • 400-yard Individual Medley – McCoy won the race while Andrasek (4:37.84) placed third and Cassie Barkhorn (4:48.53) fifth.
  • With the loss, Boise State is now 13-10 all-time versus Nevada in all competitions and 5-5 in duals.
