It has been an exciting couple of days for Ireland’s Fiona Doyle.
Yesterday Doyle recorded a 1:07.67 to become the first Irish swimmer to qualify for the Rio Olympic Games.
She returned to the pool tonight posting a time of 1:07.15 breaking her own Irish record of 1:07.66, which she put up at the 2013 World University Games in Kazan. Her time also places her 12th in the world rankings.
With that record Doyle now holds every Irish breaststroke record except for the short course 50 which is held by Sycerika McMahon.
Doyle improved on her time from 2013, but was not able to improve on her second place finish. Doyle finished third in the event behind Mira Matsushima of Japan and American Lilia King.
