MEN’S 50 FREE SKINS
ROUND 1 – QUARTERFINAL
1. Michael Andrew – NYB – 21.20
2. Caeleb Dressel – CAC – 21.34
3. Michael Chadwick – LAC – 21.39
4. Ryan Held – LAC – 21.48
5. Marcelo Chierighini – NYB – 21.78
6. Bowe Becker – CAC – 21.79
7. Zach Apple – DCT – 21.96
8. Jeremy Stravius – DCT – 22.10
The men’s race is much more defined. Dressel should win this, barring a huge upset. But in the team race, LA putting two into the semifinal is a great swing for them. The Current are showing up in the key moments, even if it doesn’t ultimately swing the score. DC not only missed the semis, they take just 7th and 8th for the minimum of 3 points. That’s odd, considering their personnel (Apple and Stravius) are pretty good. But Apple is mostly a taper swimmer, and probably needs more rest to be closer to his peak.
ROUND 2 – SEMIFINAL
1. Caeleb Dressel – CAC – 21.39
2. Michael Chadwick – LAC – 21.84
3. Michael Andrew – NYB – 22.44
4. Ryan Held – LAC – 22.81
It’s Dressel and Chadwick moving on. Solid break for LA to get one of their guys in. Dressel is so good in these types of races – it feels like he’s built for the skins more so than almost anyone in the world. The top two were well ahead of the field, and the pure sprinters Andrew and Held both dropped off pretty good from their round 1 swims.
ROUND 3 – FINAL
1. Caeleb Dressel – CAC – 21.25
2. Michael Chadwick – LAC – 22.35
Poor Chadwick was overmatched from the start. Dressel was unbelievably fast in all three rounds – to finish at 21.2 is pretty ridiculous. That should seal another MVP award for Dressel, too.
Caeleb Dressel showcased an incredibly consistent skins effort, staying within two-tenths of all three of his swims. Yet LA had the upperhand as Michael Chadwick and Ryan Held advanced to the seminfinals, becoming the only team this afternoon to bring both team members to the double-points round.
It’s 3 50s… wait no it’s a little more … it’s 3 rounds…
Yea
It’s 3 rounds of 50s… and there’s 8 in each round
So it’s 24x50s, which I guess is a little harder than 3
Oh and less rest… but whatever
3x8x50 on 1:30 if you do it truly all out will hurt you for days. It’s a tough one for sure
USRPT set
Lactate set
Correct there is too much rest in between the 25 to be a true USRPT set
Yeah they rest at the pool instead of the beach
That is a really a cheep shot.
After Dressel mentions the 3x (8x50s), why wasn’t there a follow up question – what did you average on that set? For as many times as he’s interviewed we never hear about how fast he’s going in practice. Inquiring minds want to know.
One absurd set/claim that was reported (https://www.yourswimlog.com/gregg-troys-favorite-sets-for-sprinters/) was Dressel doing 60 X 25s SCY from a dive (assume there were blocks at both ends) on 1:00 averaging 8s to the feet. Even if it were 9’s to the feet, it would be killer.
Maybe from a running start/ starting urself so u can anticipate instead of react.
Troy will get you in shape, Lochte has been working off that base for years.
CTGP?
thats why Lochte’s chances to make the team next year is still legit
Oh yeah the set is similar…Except you do eight 50…Three times through. I love how casual he is about it.
I mean it’s pretty much the same thing
Good ol Troy puke set.
I did notice that on the 2nd 50 he breathed on every stroke on the second 25, and still beat everyone pretty handily. This man is a beast.
