Dressel, Pinion, Hinds Named SEC Swimmers of the Week

Male Co-Swimmers of the Week
Caeleb Dressel • Florida
Sophomore • Green Cove Springs, Fla.
Dressel had a remarkable weekend at the Buckeye Invitational, swimming to seven NCAA ‘A’ cuts, three US Olympic Trial-qualifying times, and eight wins. In addition, Dressel rewrote the University of Florida record books with a new school record in the 100 breaststroke.

Evan Pinion • Tennessee
RS Sophomore • Knoxville, Tenn.
Pinion’s winning times in the 500 and 1650 freestyles at the Tennessee Invitational were the fastest in the country this season. During his 1650 swim, he also broke the school record in the 1000 free (8:52.49), also making it the top time nationally.

Male Diver of the Week
Mauricio Robles • Tennessee
RS Senior • Monterrey, Mexico
Robles won two of the three events during the Tennessee Invitational. He finished first in the 3-meter (433.20) and platform (407.10) events and was runner up in the 1-meter (354.80). Robles’ score on the 3M springboard is a career best and ranks fifth in program history. He scored over 400 in platform diving in more than a year, winning the competition by more than 60 points.

Male Freshman of the Week
James Guest • Georgia
Freshman • Baie-d’Urfe, Montreal
In Georgia’s win over Emory, Guest won two events and was on a victorious relay. He won the 200 breaststroke in 2:01.85 and the 200 individual medley in 1:51.98. He also helped the 200 medley relay win in 1:32.70.

Female Swimmer of the Week
Natalie Hinds • Florida
Senior • Midland, Texas
Hinds led the Florida women in the pool this weekend, swimming to six wins and an NCAA ‘A’ cut in the 100 freestyle as the Gators took first place at the Buckeye Invitational. In addition, the Midland, Texas, native posted a US Olympic Trial-qualifying time in the 100 freestyle.

Female Diver of the Week
Madison Hudkins • Texas A&M
Junior • Murrieta, Calif.
In Texas A&M’s first-place finish at the Art Adamson Invitational, Hudkins took top honors over 23 fellow divers in both the 1-meter (317.90) and 3-meter (349.95) events.

Female Freshman of the Week
Madeline Banic • Tennessee
Freshman • Midlothian, Va.
At the Tennessee Invite, Banic won the 100 butterfly in 51.19, the fastest time in the NCAA this season and the second-fastest time in program history. Her 50 free time (22.24) is also the 11th fastest in the NCAA this year.

I remember the name of Evan Pinion very well. I believe he broke a NAG record held by Michael Phelps in the 400 free at the 2009 US junior nationals. The same meet the world has seen for the first time Missy Franklin in action and win multiple titles.
Great to see him make the headlines again more than 6 years later.
