Drexel Women Sweep Weekend Meets Against Saint Peter’s, Howard

The Drexel women’s swimming team took down both Howard and Saint Peter’s on Sunday afternoon from Newark, N.J. in a meet hosted by NJIT.

The Dragons defeated Howard, 130-109, and Saint Peter’s, 150-54.

The women swept four events on Sunday including the 50-yard freestyle, 200-yard freestyle, 100-yard backstroke and 100-yard butterfly. In total, Drexel had the top time in 13 of 14 total events, only finishing second in the 200-yard medley relay to open the three-team meet. Following the 100-yard backstroke, the women had clinched both victories.

In the 50-yard freestyle, Aubrey Murray touched the wall first at 25.26 followed by Kaitlin Perni in second at 25.33 with Emma Thomas rounding out the pack in third with a time of 25.59.

In the 200-yard freestyle, Emily Kosten led Drexel with a time of 1:53.25 with Niki Fistrovic and Deborah Stoddard finishing second and third with respective times of 1:59.25 and 2:00.97.

In the 100-yard backstroke, Thomas finished first at 1:00.37 followed by Kosten, 1:01.16, and Perni, 1:03.51.

Alexa Kutch, Emily Joyce and Claudia Duguay placed first, second and third with times of 59.76, 1:01.67 and 1:01.78 in the 100-yard butterfly.

Charlotte Myers and April Forsthoffer turned in sprint victories in the 50-yard backstroke and breaststroke with times of 28.82 and 31.80.

Joyce won the 100-yard freestyle behind a time of 54.78 while Dora Gercsak touched the wall first in the 1000-yard freestyle at 10:48.02.

The Dragons now return home as the squads play host to Georgetown on Saturday, January 21 in the final home meet of the year. Action begins at 1 p.m. from the Daskalakis Athletic Center as Drexel will honor its senior class beforehand.
