SPRINGFIELD, Mo.— Both of Drury’s swimming & diving teams opened the 2023-24 season at the McKendree triangular against the Bearcats and St. Louis University. The Drury men’s team defeated St. Louis University 229-86 and lost to second-ranked McKendree 213-102. DU’s women’s squad took down the Bilikins 217-98 and defeated McKendree, ranked 10th in NCAA-II, 164-151.
Women’s highlights
- Drury won the 400 medley relay (Lexie Waller, Claire Conover, Mellie Wijk, and Josie Bushell) with a time of 3:53.68
- Maria Munoz won three events: the 200 Fly (2:03.86), the 100 Fly (56.57), and the 400 IM (4:26.00)
- The Panthers were 1-2-3 in the 200 IM as Mellie Wijk won the event (2:08.76) and was followed by Clarie Conover (2:10.01) and Luisa Machado (2:12.23)
- Ashlyn Moore took the 100 Free (52.03)
- Lexie Waller was first in the 200 Back (2:05.11)
- Claire Conover won the 200 Breast (2:22.16)
- The Panthers ended the meet with a win in the 400 Free Relay (Bushell, Walker, Moore and Wijk) with a time of 3:28.57 to beat McKendree by 0.51 seconds
Men’s highlights
- Drury was 1-2 in the 100 Back as Ivan Adamchuk won (50.00) and Victor Khnykin was second (50.43)
- Adamchuk returned to win the 200 IM (1:52.37)
- Cole Earl won both diving events as the fifth-year senior from Springfield-Glendale won the 1-meter with a score of 271.45 and the 3-meter competition with a total of 290.25
The Panthers compete again and will have their home opener on Nov. 3-4 when they host the Drury Invitational at the Breech Pool

O’FALLON, Ill. – McKendree University men’s swimming and diving secured wins over Saint Louis University and Drury University in the Bearcats’ tri-meet. No.2-ranked McKendree topped GLVC opponent Drury 213-102 and Saint Louis University 261-54.
The Bearcats dominated the lanes, winning 15 events in the two-day meet. All four relay wins belonged to the Bearcats, first with the 400 medley relay featuring junior Patryk Rozenek, senior Filipe Pinheiro, junior Jackson Lustig, and freshman Come Jaegle, followed by the 200 freestyle relay to end day one with the team of graduate student Caleb Law, fifth-year senior DaVante Carey, freshman Patrick Cramer, and Jaegle. In the second day of competition, the Bearcats team of Carey, Pinheiro, Lustig, and Law captured the 200 medley relay while Jaegle, sophomore Leo Gandaria-Hernandez, junior Arthur Souza, and Law secured the win in the 400 freestyle relay.
Jaegle gave a strong performance in the freestyle events with three individual wins in the 200 freestyle, 100 freestyle, and 500 freestyle. Lustig and Pinheiro came away with two wins apiece as Lustig took first in the 100 and 200 butterfly and Pinheiro swept the 100 and 200 breaststroke events.
Four Bearcats won one race each including Rozenek in the 100 backstroke, Law in the 50 freestyle, sophomore Caden Brooks in the 400 individual medley and freshman Christian Davidson in the 1000 freestyle.
Coming up, the Bearcats will be in action at the University of Indianapolis on Friday, Oct. 27.
