Dual Athlete Ainsley Toews Commits to George Mason For Swimming

Fitter and Faster Swim Camps is the proud sponsor of SwimSwam’s College Recruiting Channel and all commitment news. For many, swimming in college is a lifelong dream that is pursued with dedication and determination. Fitter and Faster is proud to honor these athletes and those who supported them on their journey.

Ainsley Toews, a swimmer and cross country athlete at Tift County High School in southern Georgia, has verbally committed to George Mason University for swimming.

I am excited to announce my verbal commitment to continue my academic and swimming career at George Mason University! This team has some amazing things in store and I’m honored to be a part of it. Many thanks to my friends, family, coaches, and the Lord for helping guide me to this point. Can’t wait to call Fairfax, Virginia home for the next four years! Go Patriots!”

Toews swam at the 2021 Georgia High School State GHSA 7A State Championships in Class 7A, the class with the biggest schools. At that meet, she she placed 21st in the 100 breaststroke. She also placed in the top 16 as part of her team’s 200 and 400 free relay. She also swims for the Tiftarea Tidal Wave club team. In December, she participated in the Senior Short Course State Championships, where she placed 22nd in the 200 breaststroke.

Here are her best short-course yards times:

  • 50 free: 25.14
  • 100 free: 54.61
  • 100 breast: 1:06.99
  • 200 breast: 2:25.11

George Mason University is a member of the Atlantic 10 conference. At the 2021 A10 women’s championship, GMU finished 6th out of ten teams.

If Toews had participated in the 2021-22 season with her best times, she would’ve been the third-fastest GMU swimmer in the 200 breaststroke and the fourth-fastest in the 100 breaststroke. The swimmers who ranked ahead of her were Jacquee Clabeaux, a senior and the second-fastest performer in the 100 breast in program history, and freshmen Daphne Bernal in the 200 and Ali Tyler and Emma De Jong in the 100. Toews will therefore have a solid training group when she arrives in the fall.

Toews joins 2022 GMU recruits Angelina Zeidan, a USA Futures qualifier in sprint free, back, and fly; Ally Leary, a sprint freestyler; and Brooke Nelson, a USA Futures qualifier in the 100 and 200 breaststroke as recruits. Nelson is currently faster than Toews, but Toews is just a couple of seconds off Nelson’s time in the 100 breast.
