Dual Sport Athlete Lucas Lane Chooses Ohio State for Swimming

Fitter and Faster Swim Camps is the proud sponsor of SwimSwam’s College Recruiting Channel and all commitment news. For many, swimming in college is a lifelong dream that is pursued with dedication and determination. Fitter and Faster is proud to honor these athletes and those who supported them on their journey.

Ohio State University has received a verbal commitment from Lucas Lane of Dover, OH for its class of 2027. Lane is a junior at Dover High School where he holds the school records in the 200 free, 500 free, and 100 fly. He swims year-round with the Hudson Explorers Aquatic Team.

I am very blessed to announce my verbal commitment to continue my academic and athletic careers at The Ohio State University. I want to thank all of the people who have put a hand on my swimming career, this could not have happened without you. I want to thank my family for always being there and supporting me. Most importantly, I’d like to thank God for this opportunity.

Lane is a 2020 Ohio State Division II champion in the 200 free. Last February the Dover HS sophomore competed at the timed finals state championship meet. He swam the 100 and 200 free, picking up medals and personal best times in each race. His time of 46.38 in the 100 free earned him a bronze medal. He was 0.42 seconds away from the gold medalist in the race.

He followed that up with a gold medal in the 200 free. He narrowly out-touched Napoleon High School’s Kyle Hudson for the state title. Lane powered to the wall in a best time of 1:39.66. He set school records in both the 100 and 200 free.

Lane anchored his team’s 400 free relay, closing in a 100 free time of 45.97. He also swam the butterfly leg on their 200 medley relay, splitting a 23.20.

He is an 8-time DII All-Ohio swimmer and he was named a 2020 All-American for his 200 free.

Lane is a 2021 Winter Juniors qualifier. He competed in the 100 fly and 200 free at the Speedo Winter Junior East meet in December. The fly and free specialist touched 117th and 89th, respectively.

Top SCY Times:

  • 100 free – 46.38
  • 200 free – 1:39.66
  • 100 fly – 50.77

Lane is also a member of his school’s football team. He is a placekicker and punter and was named the First Team All-District Punter.

The Ohio State University will welcome Lane in the fall of 2023. He will not be the only Dover High School alumni swimming for the team. He will be joining Tyler Read and Eli Stoll as a member of the Buckeyes’ class of 2027.

Come on, college swammers. Aren’t some of you thinking “um, punting sounds awesome”. Especially those that had college roomates in other sports without morning workouts.
