DURHAM – Duke swimming and diving junior Brendan Driscoll and sophomore Sarah Foley have been named the men’s and women’s ACC Swimmers of the Week, the league announced Tuesday afternoon.
Driscoll recorded a pair of strong races to lead the Blue Devils against No. 15 Tennessee and No. 2 Queens University of Charlotte (Division II). The Tampa, Fla., native placed first in the 1,000 freestyle with a mark of 9:14.15 and touched second in the 500 freestyle with a time of 4:30.76.
Foley led the Duke women’s team in the meet against No. 6 Tennessee and top-ranked Division II side Queens. A native of Philadelphia, Pa., she placed first in the 200 breaststroke with a time of 2:13.33 and second in the 100 breaststroke, touching in 1:02.25. She finished second in the 200 individual medley in 2:01.36. Foley also was a member of Duke’s 200 medley relay team that placed second in the meet (1:39.61).
The honors are each of their firsts of the season but become the seventh and eighth by Blue Devils this year. Driscoll and Foley join Cole Reznick (Swimmer of the Week Nov. 2), Seamus Harding Jr. (Diver of the Week Nov. 2), Yixuan Chang (Swimmer of the Week Nov. 2) and Margo O’Meara (Diver of the Week Nov. 2, Nov. 9 and Nov. 23).
Duke returns to action on Saturday as the Blue Devils travel to Raleigh, N.C. to compete against No. 2/5 NC State. Diving is slated to begin at 10 a.m., with swimming to follow at 11 a.m.
