The Royal Dutch Swimming Federation announced the retirement 29 year old Saskia de Jonge. de Jonge first represented the Netherlands in 2006 as 20 year old at the European Short Course Championships.
de Jonge was a member of the 2008 Olympic team qualifying to swim on the 4 x 100 freestyle and medley relays as well as the 4 x 200 freestyle relay. Although she was eligible to swim on all three relays she only took part in the prelims of the 4 x 200 freestyle. The team consisting of de Jonge, Femke Heemskerk, Ranomi Kromowidjojo and Manon van Rooijen finished 11th.
At 2008 at the FINA Short Course World Championships de Jonge earned a gold medal as part of the 4 x 100 freestyle relay. She participated in the prelims while the team made up of Hinkelien Schreuder, Marleen Veldhuis, Femke Heemskerk and Inge Dekker won the final in a world record time.
She also represented the Netherlands at the 2009 World Championships, 2010 European Championships and the 2007, 2008, 2009, 2010 and 2013 European Short Course Championships.
de Jonge had been training at the National Training Center in Eindhoven under the direction of Patrick Pearson.
