Atlanta, Georgia’s Elizabeth Bailey has given a verbal commitment to the University of California, Berkeley for the 2017-18 season.

Bailey is a senior at Marist School. She was runner-up in the 100 fly (54.43) and took third in the 200 IM (2:02.36) at the 2016 GHSA 1-5A State Swimming & Diving Meet. She also split a 24.30 butterfly in the 200 medley relay, and anchored the 400 free relay in 51.89.
Bailey swims year-round for Dynamo Swim Club. She competed in the 100m fly at 2016 U.S. Olympic Trials, after having won the event at Nashville Sectionals. In addition, the versatile Bailey was an A-finalist in all the events she swam: 100/200m free, 100/200m fly, and 200/400m IM.
Her best SCY times are:
- 100 fly – 54.43
- 200 fly – 1:59.31
- 200 IM – 2:02.36
- 400 IM – 4:21.65
- 200 back – 2:02.32
Bailey will join the Golden Bears with fellow class of 2021 commits Alexandra Skorus-Neely, Ali Harrison, and Dannie Dilsaver.

As opposed to a non-verbal commitment?
Hi Douglas – yes, the alternative would be a binding written commitment that carries with it certain restrictions and requirements for the athlete, in exchange for some form of compensation.
A ‘verbal commitment’ is just a public statement of intent by an athlete, and is non-binding.
