Eastern Michigan Reels in Ben Gingher and Ben Brooks

Ben Gingher of Boalsburg, Pennsylvania and Ben Brooks of Avon, Ohio have both made verbal commitments to swim for Eastern Michigan University for the 2017-18 season.

Gingher, a senior at State College Area High School, is familiar with the Eagles’ program; his sister, Michele Gingher, swam for EMU and graduated in 2012. A breaststroker who also swims sprint free, Gingher represented State College Area High School at the 2016 Pennsylvania AAA Boys State Championships. He swam the 50 free and 100 breast at Districts, and the 100 breast at States.

He also swims year-round for Nittany Lion Aquatic Club in State College. He competed in the 50y free, 100/200y breast, and 100y fly at the Middle Atlantic Senior Championship Meet last spring, and again in the LCM Senior Championships last summer. His best SCY times include:

  • 100 breast – 58.69
  • 200 breast – 2:11.72
  • 50 free – 22.84
  • 100 free – 51.03
  • 100 fly – 55.94

“Never ever ever give up”

Brooks is a USA Swimming Scholastic All-American from Avon High School and Lake Shore Swim Club in Bay Village, Ohio. He placed sixth in the 200 IM (1:52.51) and won the consolation in the 100 breast (58.19) at the Ohio State High School Division I Championships last February.

Swimming for his club team last summer he finished 20th in the 200m IM and 40th in the 100m breast at 2016 Speedo Summer Juniors. His best LCM times, however, came from the 2016 USA Swimming Futures Championships at College Park, where he went 53.76 in the 100m free, 59.99 in the 100m back, 1:04.95 in the 100m breast, and 2:08.00 in the 200m IM. His best SCY times are:

  • 100 breast – 57.88
  • 200 breast – 2:09.81
  • 200 IM – 1:52.45
  • 100 free – 47.04
  • 200 free – 1:43.10
