Egyptian Swimmer Banned after Positive Test for Testosterone

Egyptian swimmer Mohamed Waled Saad El Mozayen has been given a 4-year suspension by the Disciplinary Committee of the Egyptian Swimming Federation after failing a doping test on April 3rd, 2017. His suspension officially began on July 26th, 2017 and will expire on July 25th, 2021.

According to FINA, an “analysis performed on his sample indicated the exogenous origin of the urinary metabolites of Testosterone.”

Waleed is a 21-year old swimmer who was a regular finalist at the Egyptian National Championships from 2014 through 2016. At the 2016 meet, he finished 8th in the 100 free in 52.82 (after a 52.40 in the semi-finals). He swam on Egypt’s team internationally at the 2013 Mediterranean Games, where he was part of 5th-place finishing 400 and 800 free relays. He anchored the 400 free relays at 16 years old with a team-best split of 53.85, and also split a 1:58.46 on the 800 free relay.
