Eli Coan, a member of the Cumming Waves Swim Team, has verbally committed to swim at Gardner-Webb University. The Clarkesville, Georgia native will join a talented team of student-athletes and veteran head coach, Mike Simpson as part of the class of 2021. Coan, a captain of the Cumming Waves, announced his verbal commitment via Instagram on Sunday:
“I am so proud and excited to announce my verbal commitment to Gardner-Webb University! As soon as I stepped on campus for my visit I knew this would be an amazing environment to develop as a Student-Athlete. I would like to thank my family and friends for supporting me through a dream to swim in Division 1 and I’m so excited to start this next chapter of my life.”
Coan is a Winter Junior Nationals qualifier in the 50 free and expects to make contributions to the Swimming Bulldogs primarily in sprint freestyle and backstroke events. However, he is versatile enough to be counted on when needed in IM and fly, as well. Coan’s top SCY times include:
- 50 free – 21.50
- 100 free – 47.07
- 100 back – 53.04
- 100 fly – 52.77
Coan has an older sister, McKenzie Coan, who represented Team USA in the 2012 London Paralympic Games and swam for Loyola University. Older brother Grant Coan swam at Georgia Tech.
