The Westford girls were dominant as they won the team title at the 2020 Massachusetts Division 1 Championships, scoring more than double the points of any other team. They swept all 3 relays at the meet. Michaela Martin highlighted the 200 medley relay (1:47.23) with her 24.99 fly split. Kate Edison was a member of the winning 200 free relay (1:38.90) again this season. She lef off in 24.89. On the winning 400 free relay (3:34.20), Martin led off in 53.77, while Edison anchored in 52.61.
Martin went on to win an individual double. She was just half a second off her best, which she set in 2018, in the 100 fly as she won the race in 56.50. Martin returned for the 100 back, taking the title in 57.84. She was just 3 tenths shy of a best there.
Chicopee Comprehensive sophomore Ella Smith took down the Meet Record in the 100 breast. She dropped a second from her lifetime best, lowering the record to a 1:02.98. The former record of 1:03.63 stood for 23 years, as Kerry Charpentier had set it in 1997.
Bridgewater’s Megan Kramer repeated as champion in the 200 IM as she won in 2:02.16. That took a second off her former best. She has one more year to go after the State Record of 2:01.56 set by UVA All-American Jen Marrkand in 2014. Kramer also won the 100 free title in 51.39 for a new lifetime best.
Silverlake’s Alexa Connors picked up a winning double as she defended her state titles in the 200 free (1:50.74) and 500 free (4:53.64). Minnechaug’s Margaret Petruzzelli also picked up a win with a 24.26 in the 50 free. That clipped a couple of tenths off her best time.
