This has been a whirlwind of an off-season in terms of D1 transfer shake-ups, with a lot of movement in and out of Arizona State and Indiana, in particular. The next move is a transfer out of Arizona State, as Emily Glinecke has announced her decision to transfer across the country to Florida Gulf Coast University.
Glinecke has spent two years as a student-athlete at Arizona State, meaning she’ll have two years of eligibility left with the Eagles of FGCU. She is originally from Pottstown, Pennsylvania.
As a freshman, Glinecke made the 200 breast B final and 100 breast C final in individual efforts for the Sun Devils at the 2017 Pac-12 Championships. She C-finaled in the 100 breast again this season as a sophomore but was unable to score in the 200 breast. In the breaststrokes, Glinecke was 1:01/2:16 as a freshman at Pac-12s compared to the 1:03/2:20 she produced this year.

FGCU just graduated Sommer Harris, the 2018 CCSA conference champion in the 100 breast, along with Hannah Soutar, the 2018 conference champ in the 200 breast. Petra Halmai, a rising sophomore, finished 2nd in the 200 and 3rd in the 100, and will be one of Glinecke’s primary training partners next season. Already, with her best times, Glinecke will be competing for a conference crown in at least the 100 breast, so this is a big pickup for the Eagles.
Rising sophomore Dylan Boyd recently announced his transfer out of ASU, to Michigan, while ASU’s men’s team picked up two transfers from Indiana. A big get for the ASU women this post-season has been Olympian Cierra Runge.

Bob gave each swimmer a chance to train at the highest level. Some swimmer’s dreams are a lot higher than their work ethic, but they were given the chance to live and work hard to achieve their dream. Bob’s program isn’t for everyone, but the swimmer’s were given the chance. Some major D1 programs won’t even return an email, if you don’t have Senior National Times. I have no connection to ASU, except that I know Bob as a coach. You bust your butt in practice and he’ll will bust his to make you the best you can be.
So you were not there and have no idea what it going on, but you are assuming and implying the 13 kids who left this season are not hard workers. Instead of speculating on a public forum, on a story about one of them finding a better option, you might want to find out what really is going on at ASU instead. It does not put the coaching staff in a good light as judges of character if they recruit 13 kids who “have dreams a lot higher than their work ethic”, does it?(which is not the case anyway). You might want to ask around as to why 13 swimmers are leaving the program in one season, including several who… Read more »
Several who swam at NCAA? The only one I see so far was Boyd who swam in one relay and it seems that ASU is bringing in 4-5 guys faster than he was as freshman….
Wrong, I said I have no connection to ASU, meaning I am not an alum, undergrad or have current swimmers training at ASU. I do know swimmers on the ASU team and they talk with my swimmers on a daily basis. Agreed it wasn’t a work ethic problem with all 13, some just didn’t like Bob’s road to success. That’s what’s good about swimming, there is always a program and a coach to meet your needs.
Aside from Boyd transfering to Michigan, not sure I follow…except maybe bigger impact at FHCU. Best of luck with all endeavors.
She has a 7’2″ wingspan
Can’t give you any love for publicly mocking a high school kid on his college commitment statement.
So glad I picked a school based on academics, so when my swimming went down the toilet, I could just quit. Transferring has got to be really, really hard. Best of luck to Emily!
YEAH GO BEST FRIEND THATS MY BEST FRIEND
Bob should pose with all the transfers at their new schools too. Complete the circle.
Do D1 swimmers have to sit out a year upon transferring, or has that rule been changed?
Can depend on the conference, but you also have to get permission from your school. Its severely looked down upon if you are transferring within a conference which can add a lengthy bit of time (if you can at all)
Why do we care about ASU any more than we care about Purdue? Purdue got 19th at their NCAA meet and people seem to focus more on number 20. And maybe people are leaving because they thought it would be something better??
Because Bob Bowman coaches there…
