Emma’s senior year of high school she was only 2:23 in the 200 SCY breast and 2:43 in the 200 LCM breast (her junior year she was 2:15/2:39.9). What a crazy improvement! I swam against her years ago and she was mainly an IMer, but clearly she had some untapped breaststroke talent. Kudos to Emma and the Notre Dame staff!

I thought she was going to be the one pushing Breeja Larson to an AR at NCAAs, not the one who would SET the AR herself at ACCs!! Hope the NCAA race will be a barnburner and a couple others will be pushing these two hard, maybe for another record.

4-6-6-6-6-6-6-6 strokes per length, and it looked like 5.5 from the 4th-5th-6th lengths… fantastic underwaters… wow.

It’s cool to see you can break NCAA and American records even while not being at Cal, Stanford, USC, Florida, Georgia or a few other big college powerhouses.

I’ve found a video of her race.

Thanks Bobo. I notice that she brings her arm fully up and high out of the water on some of her turns; that was the old school way that I was brought up on, now felt to be less efficient, but to me it appears to enhance her explosive turns.

She has great underwater. she destroyed everyone at the turns. Highly effective in SCY, but will not do her as much help in LCM.

My bet is she is an average LCM swimmer.

aswimfan – for context, she was a 1:07.97 and 2:25.82 in the 100 and 200 breaststroke at the U.S. Open over the summer.
