For the second time in as many days, an Emory quartet rewrote the NCAA Division III record books. After breaking the Division III and meet records in the 200 medley relay during finals on Wednesday night, the Eagles were back at it again on Thursday in prelims with the longer event, the 400 medley relay.
Freshman Sage Ono (48.20), senior Andrew Wilson (51.91), senior Mitchell Cooper (48.50), and sophomore Trey Kolleck (44.35) combined for 3:12.96, taking a .07 bite out of the Division III record they had set at the Miami Invitation in Oxford, Ohio last December. They also downed the meet record of 3:13.49, set by Williams at the 2015 NCAA Division III Championships.
Most of the difference came from a .72-improvement from Ono in the leadoff backstroke. Wilson was 9/10 faster in December, so there’s a good chance the Eagles will re-break their new record in finals tonight.

That’s 1.1 faster for Wilson in September – are we going to see the DIII record under 3:10 tonight when Ollie gets to the anchor leg and Wilson drops the hammer? Just think – the only division that had broken 3:10 in the 400 MR was DI up until 2015… now all three divisions could have it.
