Emory Men, Kenyon Women Lead D-III Rankings in First CSCAA Top 25 Poll of Season

Emory and Kenyon are separated by 10 points or less on both the men’s and women’s side atop the first College Swimming and Diving Coaches Association of America (CSCAA) Division III poll released last week.

The top three teams on the men’s side are the same as the results from last season’s NCAA Championships, with Emory (421 points) just barely edging out Kenyon (412) and Chicago (408). After finishing 6th last season, MIT sits 4th in the season-opening rankings.

The women’s poll saw a little shake-up as defending champion Denison is only ranked 3rd (351 points) behind No. 2 Emory (359) and No. 1 Kenyon (369), which placed 3rd last season after winning the team title in 2022 to snap Emory’s 10-year winning streak.

Drug test the voters. Having the Kenyon Kangaroos at 2 on the men’s side is absurd. They’ll be lucky if they finish top 5.

I don’t think 1 guy can make up a 400 point gap that they had last year but he’s certainly going to help

Loosely related, Riley, have you analyzed mens D3 recruiting? NYU has 13 newcomers, that look fast, and could make some noise this year…..Wondering how NYU recruits stack up this year with traditional D3 Powerhouses Emery & Kenyon?

Ah yes, the CWRU men, who scored more points on the swim side with half their team than the CMU men at the Kenyon relays this weekend, are ranked 13 spots below them. They have some absolute scholars over at CSCAA

Rankings are calculated by Division III head coaches (not the CSCAA) in regional committees and they consider head-to-head dual meet format when ranking teams in their region. Not saying teams can’t be undervalued, but the methodology is important to keep in mind when comparing to results of a relay-only meet with a number of non-NCAA events (500 free relay for example). Of course, it is still great bulletin board material for a team like Case- who put up some excellent relay times.

there are no calculations. My D3 college coach asked team members to rank for him!
