Emory Wins 9th Straight NCAA Division III Women’s Team Title

The Emory women’s team won their 9th consecutive NCAA Division III Swimming and Diving title, and their 11th overall title, scoring 603 points to Kenyon’s 500. Emory won its first national championship in 2005, then won again in 2006, and started their 9-win streak in 2010.

Emory is solidly in 2nd in total Division 3 titles earned, with their 11 coming in behind Kenyon’s 23 titles. Williams has won 2 titles, and Denison has won 1 title.

Longtime head coach Jon Howell won swimming coach of the year for the 3rd year in a row. He was helped by assistant coaches Cindy Fontana, Chris Marshall, John Petroff, and Bobby Hackett, and head diving coach Alex Kossenkov.

Emory won 6 events en route to their team title, breaking the NCAA Division III record in 4 of them:

  • 50 free – Fiona Muir, 22.72 (22.48 RECORD in prelims)
  • 100 free – Fiona Muir, 49.29
  • 200 free – Cindy Cheng, 1:46.89
  • 200 medley relay – Cindy Cheng, Hannah Lally, Meg Campbell, Meg Taylor – 1:40.12 (RECORD)
  • 400 free relay – Fiona Muir, Cindy Cheng, Ming-fen Ong, Meg Taylor – 3:18.46 (RECORD)
  • 800 free relay – Fiona Muir, Julia Wawer, Meg Taylor, Cindy Cheng – 7:13.51 (RECORD)
