Energy Standard has won the first-ever International Swimming League title by fewer than 10 points.

At the conclusion of Saturday’s ISL Grand Finale, the Turkey-based team led the London Roar by fewer than 10 points, 453.5-444. Energy Standard, the league’s first team (which had experience with the format from its prior Energy for Swim events) went undefeated this season.

London led for much of Saturday, but failed to advance a swimmer into the semifinal of the men’s skins race, which sealed Energy Standard’s win. London’s Kyle Chalmers and Duncan Scott finished fifth and sixth, respectively, in the first skins heat.

Bolstered by Daiya Seto‘s ISL debut — in which he picked up three individual wins and a world record — Energy Standard picked up nine wins over the course of the Friday-Saturday meet. Overall MVP Sarah Sjostrom won the women’s 50 free and skins races. The team won three relays (women’s 4×100 free, men’s 4×100 medley, mixed 4×100 free).

Final Scores

  1. Energy Standard – 453.5
  2. London Roar – 444
  3. Cali Condors – 415.5
  4. LA Current – 318

If the ISL Championship comes down to this one event then what is the purpose of all the previous meets in the ISL calendar?

to eliminate the teams that can’t perform consistently during season.

When several great swimmers are left out of the final competition like Janelle Atkinson in breast…I lost intetmrest in the outcome.

This was a great finale – was on the edge of my seat watching those last events. I admittedly lost a bit of excitement for this competition after the buzz of first few rounds (got up initially to watch the first rounds live, just checked results / watched highlights for the “derbies”), but the final couldn’t have played out much better for the viewers. Looking forward to seeing how it evolves next year.

Can articles like this please be posted in a separate “spoilers” tab? It’s no fun to log in, intending to re-read the live recap and re-watch race videos, and have the result already there.

Energy Standard deserves the win. Aside from maybe Naples, as a whole, their swimmers have gotten better and better every meet and performed when it mattered. They’ve also had great tactics, and did well to scrape by through two relay DQs at previous meets.

Whoops, didn’t mean to post the same comment twice.

Definitely hope that this format continues. Amazing to watch, and Cali Condors definitely made it interesting. It’s absolutely necessary to get at least a few stars on the other teams though.

What is known about the league next year? When will we know who the new teams are and the schedule?
