- Teams: Energy Standard/Aqua Centurions/New York Breakers/Toronto Titans
Despite the ISL season 1 MVP Sarah Sjostrom sitting out this match #6 due to an injury, Energy Standard’s stable is so deep that the squad easily took the match, amassing 609 points in the process.
Due to key assets to the tune of Anastasiya Shkurdai, Florent Manaudou, Chad Le Clos, Siobhan Haughey, Evgeny Rylov, Ilya Shymanovich, Benedetta Pilato and more, the next closest team of the Toronto Titans came in as the runner-up over 150 points behind.
NY Breakers hit a point total of 354.5 to place 3rd, while the Aqua Centurions suffered defeat by finishing last with 290.5 points in total.
Looking at the bigger picture, LA Current remains atop the overall club standings, although they have raced in 3 matches as opposed to just the 2 matches in which Energy Standard has appeared. The NY Breakers, DC Trident and Aqua Centurions have also raced on 3 occasions, with the clubs situated 6th, 9th, and 10th, respectively against all other teams who have raced the same or less.
This upcoming week 4 of the ISL season 2 calls back all teams but the Aqua Centurions from match #6, with the specific battles detailed below.
HOW STANDINGS WORK
In the regular championship season, clubs earn points from participating in matches according to the following principle:
- 1st place – 4 points
- 2nd place – 3 points
- 3rd place – 2 points
- 4th place – 1 point
At the conclusion of the ten regular-season championship matches, the top 8 teams will advance to the semifinals. From there, the top 4 teams will advance to the final where the winner of the 2020 ISL season will be determined. (Unlike in individual races, there are no team jackpot points; a team won’t gain extra points for winning a match by a huge margin.)
One change from last year’s ISL is that there are no divisions by continent (that we know of). Last year those continental divisions allowed the top 2 American teams and top 2 European teams to move onto the semifinals. This means that this season the top 8 teams overall, regardless of continent, will move onto the semifinals. A second change from last year is the addition of 2 new ISL teams, bringing the total number of competing teams to 10.
How are the teams in each semifinal decided? I wasn’t able to find any info on the ISL website…
We don’t know, and nobody that we’ve asked seems to know either.
I hope they use an algorithm of some sort to generate a fair schedule in the future because I’m reasonably confident one can be generated where teams don’t meet more than twice during the season.
My kids could have worked it out when they were 10
It definitely looks like a lack of partiy in scheduling – when was the schedule decided & by whom anyway?
looks like an “easier path” for ES in the next two weeks without having to face any of the current top 3 teams. Good chance they will be on top heading into semi… unless either London or Cali won next two weeks… however…
London and Cali on the other hand will face each other twice in next two weeks.
either one of them won both weekend and lead with 16 points or 3 teams getting 15 team points.. in that case, ES facing weaker team will likely have higher swimmer points… if that matter in ranking
What about having a fifth team in the final, consisting of the two fastest swimmers in each event from teams that have been eliminated? In my opinion, it would be really exciting. I think for some of the top swimmers it could be an extra motivation, knowing that even if they are in a weaker team they have the chance to swim in the final. Additionally an all star team like this would provide some more competitiveness.
OK so you will pick half of aqc men and their female breaststroke?
I pick LA Current men + Sarah Sjostrom + the rest of the Cali Condor women.
Since we can just combine whatever we want to make super teams, right?
No miressi Szabo sacki and chiereghinni? Bold move
And I think lac will final
You’re right. Through Szabo and Sacki in there too. Chierighini and Miressi would be nice adds, but I don’t want to be greedy.
And considering lac in so no lac men
Weakest everyone else team would be men back I think (at least compared to Guido and Murphy)
If you have LA in then Tokyo will miss the final so with Irie and Ryan from Titans they could be a threat.
Forgot about irie
Leo Santos and hagino maybe also? Covers 200 free/im and 400im?
You’d need a 10 lane pool to make this work in the format, which I guess you have in Budapest, but long-term could be limiting.
I think this would actually be really fun, though the all-eliminated team would definitely win the meet. Maybe we can do a ‘hypothetical’ version of this.
I also don’t think the league would ever in a million years go for it.
That’d be unfair on the teams that qualified for the final.
I think for my hypothetical team I would just take all of the short course world record holders in their prime, plus Michael Phelps
The toronto centurions would be a very strong team (AQC men and TT women)
Add Toronto men back and aqua breast just
What I’m getting from this is that NY has a really hard schedule and Iron has a pretty easy one, and it likely won’t affect the teams going into the semifinals, but it probably will affect their seeding – for example Iron could lose to Toronto and still get seeded above them.
Aqua suffering from women side
And finally cac x roar
