Eric Shanteau, 2008 Olympian and World Record holder in the 400 medley relay, will be hosting a “Swim For Your Life” Open Water Race this coming weekend in Atlanta, Georgia to raise money for the LiveStrong Foundation.
Shanteau learned, just a week before qualifying for the 2008 Olympic Team, that he has testicular cancer, and chose to put off his treatments until after the Olympic Games. Now, officially 5 years later from his first diagnosis, he is still in remission and has become one of the faces of the Livestrong Foundation based out of Atlanta.
As of posting, this event had raised $31,717 through the Livestrong Foundation’s website, with Ann O’Brien, Grant McMahon, and Rick Darnell having all raised over $1,000 as individuals.
The fundraiser will include a full day of open water swimming races, clinics, and entertainment, with different registration fees for different ages and lengths of races.
The event will be held in Lake Lanier Vista and the Lake Lanier Islands on September 21st.
