Eriksson & Fast Notch Glasgow-Worthy Efforts In Sweden

2019 SWEDISH SHORT COURSE CHAMPIONSHIPS

The penultimate night of competition in Sweden brought just 2 qualifiers for this December’s European Short Course Championships in Glasgow, Scotland.

Hanna Eriksson got the job done in the women’s 200m freestyle, checking in with a gold medal-worthy effort of 1:56.95. Splitting 56.56/1:00.39, Eriksson got her hand on the wall with the only sub-2:00 time of the field. Her outing cleared the 1:57.48 QT needed for Glasgow.

Eriksson owns a personal best of 1:56.61 in this event from 2017, but tonight represents just the 2nd time she’s ever been under the 1:57 barrier in the short course meters format.

The other qualifier this evening was also a woman, as Emelie Fast clocked a winning 50m breast effort of 30.75. That dipped under the Glasgow qualifying time of 30.80 to add this event to her lineup.

The 15-year-old’s outing this evening also establishes a big-time personal best, wiping out her previous career-quickest of 30.89 produced 2 years ago.

Just missing out on qualification this evening was Bjorn Seeliger‘s 50m free time of 21.70, when 21.60 was needed. Also, Klara Thormalm touched in 30.81 for silver in the 50m breast behind Fast, painstakingly just .01 outside the 30.80 QT.

Bjorn (the Bear) Seeliger swam 21.52 in the morning heats and beside his time appears EM, so I think he’s qualified.
