ESWIMs’ 13-14 Boys Break Canadian Record in 4 x 200 Free Relay

On the second day of the Canadian Age Group Championships the Etobicoke Swim Club’s 13-14 boys 4 x 200 freestyle relay team made up of Abdullah Ahmad, Rodrigo Villalobos, Ruslan Gaziev and Jong Hoon Lee set a new national age group record of 8:08.72. They destroyed the record of 8:16.01, which was set earlier this year by a different Etobicoke relay that consisted of Ahmad, Villalobos, Ray Yang and Jacob Lee.

The standout of the meet so far in the girls events has been Danielle Hanus of the Newmarket Stingrays. Hanuas has already collected three gold in the 100 butterfly, 400 IM and 50 backstroke. At the Canadian National Championships last week the 15 year old won the 50 backstroke in a time of 29.04, but missed qualifying for the FINA World Junior Championships in the 100 backstroke by .44 one-hundredths of a second.

In the boys events 13 year old Tai Long Singh of the Winskill Dolphins has been impressive, winning three events in the 13 and under age group. On Wednesday Singh won the 200 backstroke in a time of 2:17.72 and collected two more victories on Thursday, his first in the 100 freestyle where he posted a time of 55.08 and another in the 50 backstroke where he recorded a 29.00.

15 year old Javier Acevedo of Ajax Swimming, who was named rookie of the meet at the Canadian National Championships, won the 15 year old boys 100 freestyle in a time of 51.88, which was almost a full second faster than the 52.87 he posted in Pointe-Claire last week.

Evan White of the Oakville Aquatic Club continued his hot streak winning the 17-18 boys 400 IM in a time of 4:27.82.

The Pointe-Claire Swim Club is leading the team standings after the second day with a point total of 543.

Top five team scores:

  • Pointe-Claire Swim Club – 543
  • Etobicoke Swim Club – 457
  • Toronto Swim Club – 415
  • Oakville Aquatic Club – 408.5
  • Edmonton Olympians Swim Club – 404

At the NE 12 & U Champs:

Last night, Alkinoos Armoundas of Crimson Aquatics (CRIM) crushed Max Miranda’s 11-12 1500 Free record of 17:55.10 with a 17:42.85 (his previous best was a 19:06.45). This is an amazing feat seeing that Alkinoos is only 11, and still has one more year to better the record. This swim puts him 29th all-time, and it also has him ranked 7th in the nation for 11-12’s and 1st for just 11’s by over 11 seconds.

More recaps coming; in the meantime, live results can be found here: http://www.neswim.com/12unders2013/
