ESWIM’s Ray Yang Breaks 11-12 200 Butterfly National Record

On Friday night at the Canadian Age Group Championships in Montreal, Quebec Ray Yang of the Etobicoke Swim Club broke his second national record of the meet winning the boys 13 and under 200 butterfly in a time of 2:14.69. On the first night of the competition Yang won the 13 and under 100 butterfly in a time of 1:01.11 breaking his own 11-12 age group national record.

Yang’s time was 1.11 seconds faster than the record of 2:15.80, which he set earlier this year. “My goal was to break those records again,’’ Yang told Swimming Canada.

Although Yang stole the show in the 13 and under boys age group by breaking a national record Tai Long Singh of the Winskill Dolphins continued his winning ways in the same age group taking his fourth gold of the competition in the 50 freestyle posting a time of 25.71.

Four athletes who will be competing in Dubai at the World Junior Championships captured events on the evening. Genevieve Robertson of the Guelph Marlins won the 16-18 girls 100 breaststroke in a time of 1:11.99, James Guest of the Pointe-Claire Swim Club took the boys 16 year old 100 breaststroke in a time of 1:03.73, Gamal Assaad of the Oakville Aquatic Club won the boys 17-18 200 butterfly in a time of 2:04.01 while his teammate Bryce Kwiecien-Delaney won the boys 16 year old 50 freestyle in a time of 23.95.

The Etobicoke Swim Club took over the lead in the overall team standings with 841 points.
