For the second time this month twelve-year-old Ethan Dang of King Aquatic Club broke the boys 11-12 national age group record in the 200 breast.
He first broke the record on July 10 at the First Annual Mark Prothero LC Invitational hosted by King Aquatic Club with a 2:29.01. On Thursday, July 24 Dang lowered his mark by 1.13 seconds, going 2:27.88 at the PNS Long Course Championship Meet at Weyerhaeuser King County Aquatic Center.
Here are the splits:
r:+0.76 – 33.89 – 38.11 – 38.73 – 38.28 = 2:29.01
r:+0.75 – 33.20 – 37.85 – 38.52 – 38.31 = 2:27.88
Before Dang began his assault on the boys 11-12 200 breast record it had belonged to Sean Mahoney of Terrapins Swim Team, who went 2:30.12 in 2001. No one else had come within four seconds of the record since. The all-time top 10 times were:
1- 2:29.01 Ethan Dang 2014 PN KING
2- 2:30.12 Sean Mahoney 2001 PC TERA
3- 2:34.16 Joshua Choi 2005 SN SMST
4- 2:34.45 James Daugherty 2011 CA SBSC
5- 2:35.12 Jake Foster 2013 OH CM
6- 2:35.42 Will Licon 2007 BD WETT
7- 2:35.43 Shane Blinkman 2013 MN HASA

9- 2:36.81 Benjamin Winn 2014 PC SCSC
10- 2:37.15 Nick Arakelian 2009 MI KAW
Dang is within .01 of the NAG in the 100 breast with 1:09.49. The current record holder, Maverick Smalley of The Woodlands, went 1:09.48 in 2000. The only other 12-year-old boy ever to have gone under 1:10 is Michael Andrew, who clocked a 1:09.95 in 2012.
I wa honored to be able to call Ethan’s record breaking swim. I’m excited for the 1 breast!
Great job again!
Now the 100 breast record. 😎
No, he definitely swims Breaststroke
Please correct the title and last paragraph. Ethan swims backstroke – not breastroke.
Wrong….Ethan’s record was in the 200 Breast
He definitely does not do backstroke
