The UCLA Bruins received their first verbal commitment over the weekend. Emma Cain, a dual citizen (US/GB) who represents Great Britain in international competition, announced via Twitter her intention to matriculate at the University of California, Los Angeles in the fall.

Cain is a senior at Millfield School, a boarding school in Somerset, in the southwest of England. She trains under Jol Fink and Euan Dale at Millfield Swimming, alongside James Guy. One of England’s top junior breaststrokers, Cain won bronze medals in the 200 breast at both the 2014 European Junior Championships and the 2016 European Junior Championships. In her lone appearance at Speedo Junior Nationals in the U.S. (2014), she was runner-up behind Emily Kopas. Cain is a multi-time British junior national champion in the 100 and 200 breaststrokes and 200 and 400 IMs.
Her top LCM times are:
- 200m breast – 2:27.18
- 100m breast – 1:10.10
- 200m IM – 2:18.89
- 400m IM – 4:51.91
Cain’s father told SwimSwam, “Emma is super excited to verbally commit to UCLA for 2017 to swim under Coach Cyndi Gallagher and to train with such an inspiring and fun group of girls. The Californian sun will be a welcome change to the rain and damp of England after more than 10 years across the Atlantic. Go Bruins!”
