PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Fairfield men’s swimming and diving persevered today as they came back to defeat Providence 154-137 winning six of the final seven events. The women fought for every point but came up just short falling by a score of 149-151.
The men began the day with a first-place finish in the 200 SC Meter Medley Relay as Austin Twiss, Benjamin Kebbell, Jordan Rahurahu, and Nick Adams clocked in at 1:48.99. Patrick Boyle followed it up with a win of his own in the 1500 SC Meter Freestyle with a time of 16:36.37. Peter Gori won the 100 SC Meter Freestyle with a time of 54.21 and Brendan Finnegan finished second at 54.39. Gori also placed second in the 200 SC Meter Freestyle at 1:58.84. Evan Fair finished in first place in the 200 SC Meter Backstroke with a new school record time of 2:08.25. Fair then won the 200 SC Meter Individual Medley with a time of 2:12.27 and finished second in the 100 SC Meter Backstroke at 59.43. Chris Ford took home a first-place finish in the 200 SC Meter Breaststroke with a final time of 2:28.30. Austin Twiss won the 100 SC Meter Butterfly at 58.04. Jordan Rahurahu picked up a second-place finish in the 400 SC Meter Freestyle with a time of 4:15.12. The men finished the day with a dominating win in the 800 SC Meter Freestyle Relay as Benjamin Kebbell, Brendan Finnegan, Evan Fair, and Peter Gori clocked in at a new school record time of 7:59.66.
Samuel Tonole won both the 1 Meter and 3 Meter diving with scores of 216.90 and 223.57.
The women also started the day with a victory in the 200 SC Meter Medley Relay as Alexandra Miko-Rydzaj, Colleen Young, Morgan Hansen, and Maria Nitti clocked in at 2:01.95. Sara Ostensen followed with a win in the 1500 SC Meter Freestyle with a final time of 18:02.68. Ostensen also placed second in the 400 SC Meter Freestyle at 4:38.83. Colleen Young finished first in the 100 SC Meter Breaststroke with a time of 1:15.70 and placed first in the 200 SC Meter Breaststroke at 2:43.39. Young also finished second in the 200 SC Meter Individual Medley at 2:30.89. Morgan Hansen won the 200 SC Meter Butterfly with a final time of 2:25.75 and placed first in the 100 SC Meter Butterfly at 1:05.90. Maria Nitti picked up a second-place finish in the 50 SC Meter Freestyle clocking in at 27.33. Maria Nitti, Rachel Landry, Shannon Feeley, and Sara Ostensen won the 800 SC Meter Freestyle Relay with a time of 8:51.23.
Caitlin Campbell placed first in the 3 Meter Diving with a score 200.32 while Erin Wind placed second in the 1 Meter and 3 Meter Diving with scores of 191.32 and 197.40.
Fairfield will return to action when they host Fordham on Wednesday, November 13 at 5 P.M. at the RecPlex Pool.

Providence, R.I. – The Providence College men’s and women’s swimming and diving split their meet today, Nov. 2, against Fairfield University. In a meet that wasn’t decided until the final race of the day, the Friar women narrowly defeated the Stags, 151-149. The men’s team fell short against Fairfield but had a program record-setting effort in the 800-meter freestyle relay.
