FAIRFIELD, Conn. – Fairfield men’s and women’s swimming and diving took down Holy Cross this afternoon in their first home meet of the New Year.  The men defeated the Crusaders by a score of 199-89 while the women won 196-102.  Evan Fair and Morgan Hansen both broke program records while the record in the 400 Freestyle Relay was also broken.

On the men’s side, Evan Fair broke the program record in the 200 Meter Backstroke with a final time of 2:09.56.  He also finished in second place in the 200 Meter Freestyle clocking in at 1:57.71.  Patrick Boyle (8:36.50), Michael Sparks (8:56.42), and Nicholas Tsigas (8:59.60) placed first, second, and third respectively in the 800 Meter Freestyle.  Boyle also picked up first place finishes in the 200 Meter Butterfly (2:13.74) and the 400 Meter Freestyle (4:17.51).  Brendan Finnegan and Nicholas Tsigas also finished in second and third respectively in the 400 Meter Freestyle.  Benjamin Kebbell finished in first-place in the 100 Meter Backstroke with a final time of 59.37 and finished second in the 100 Meter Freestyle (53.99).  Peter Sloan placed first in the 100 Meter Breaststroke (1:07.59) and the 200 Meter Breaststroke (2:31.92).  Phillip Zyskowski and Nicholas Adams tied for first place in the 50 Meter Freestyle both with a time of 25.12.  Jack Benavides and Timothy Cusack-McPartlin went one two in the 200 Meter Individual Medley with times of 2:16.43 and 2:20.89 respectively.  Peter Gori placed third in the 200 Meter Freestyle and the 100 Meter Freestyle.  Thomas Willemse finished in second in the 200 Meter Backstroke and third in the 100 Meter Backstroke.  Jordan Rahurahu finished the day with two second place finishes in the 200 Meter Butterfly and the 100 Meter Butterfly.  Jack Shashaty also finished second in the 200 Meter Breaststroke.

Fair, Gori, Rahurahu, and Kebbell broke the program record in the 400 Meter Freestyle Relay to finish the day with their time of 3:36.32.  Fair, Sloan, Kebbell, and Adams also finished first in the 200 Meter Medley Relay.

Lukas Stanton won the 1 Meter Diving with a final score of 226.05 and won the 3 Meter Diving with a score of 217.05.

For the women, Morgan Hansen broke the program record in the 100 Meter Butterfly with a first-place time of 1:04.40. Sara Ostensen (9:17.98), Delaney Walsh (9:29.76), and Haleigh McLaughlin (9:39.21) finished one, two, three in the 800 Meter Freestyle to start the day.  Ostensen also placed first in the 200 Meter Butterfly.  Colleen Young (1:15.02), Victoria Krivitsky (1:16.68) and Emily Vlass (1:18.96) also finished in first, second, and third place respectively in the 100 Meter Breaststroke.  Young also finished first in the 200 Meter Breaststroke (2:40.19) with Vlass finishing behind her with a time of (2:46.38).  Krivitsky finished third with a time of 2:47.68.  Young also placed first in the 200 Meter Individual Medley with a time of 2:27.27. Maria Nitti took first place in the 50 Meter Freestyle (26.70) and the 100 Meter Freestyle (58.72).  Shannon Feeley won the 400 Meter Freestyle clocking in at 4:35.76 as Kathleen Duong finished in second (4:38.06).  Feeley also finished in second in the 200 Meter Freestyle with Duong coming in third. Rachel Landry placed second in the 200 Meter Backstroke while Juliana Lally picked up two third place finishes in the 100 Meter Backstroke and the 200 Meter Backstroke.  Samantha D’Alessandro finished the day with two second place finishes in the 50 Meter Freestyle and the 100 Meter Freestyle.

Kelly Cordes, Young, Hansen, and Nitti placed first in the 200 Meter Medley Relay with a final time of 2:01.65 with Emily Holman, Krivitsky, Sarah Herbold, and D’Alessandro close behind clocking in at 2:03.22 for second place.  D’Alessandro, Nitti, Cordes, and Herbold won the 400 Meter Freestyle Relay as well (4:04.56).

Erin Wind came in second place in the 1 Meter Diving with a final score of 209.78 while Caitlin Campbell came in third at 205.35.  Wind also placed second in the 3 Meter Diving (217.95).

“We just came off of one of the best training camps I’ve been fortunate enough to be a part of” said Head Coach Anthony Bruno. “I am incredibly proud of how our team took on Holy Cross today. We did a great job of finishing off races and competing. We have more work to do but this was a great bench mark for the second half of the season.”

The Stags will return to the pool when they take on Seton Hall in South Orange, New Jersey on Sunday, at 3 PM.

WORCESTER, Mass. – The Holy Cross women’s swimming and diving team took on Fairfield Friday afternoon in dual-meet action. Despite five first place finishes, the Crusaders fell, 196-102.

Casey Sherman and Katy Saladin each claimed first twice. Sherman won the one meter and three meter dives with scores of 221.40 and 240.53 respectively. Saladin won the 100 back with a 1:06.54 and the 200 back in 2:25.00.

Kayleigh Hoagland secured the other top finish for Holy Cross. She swam the 200 free in 2:09.89 to take first place.

The Holy Cross men’s swimming and diving team competed at Fairfield Friday afternoon. The Crusaders fell, 199-89, in the dual meet.

Steven Tierney led the way for Holy Cross with three individual first place finishes. He won the 200 free with a time of 1:56.90, the 100 free with a 52.41, and the 100 fly with a 58.28.

Two Crusader relay teams claimed second place in their respective events. A team of Kevin Lagasse, Mack Sullivan, Ben Fox, and Tierney took second in the 400 free relay with a 3:44.43 and Nathan Kramer, David Dillard, Kaikea Wilinski, and Lagasse teamed up for a second place finish in the 200 medley relay with a time of 1:51.18.

The squad is back in action next Saturday, Jan. 19 when they travel to Providence.
