Faith Knelson Drops 200 IM Heats on Day 4 at FINA World Juniors

6th FINA World Junior Swimming Championships

There aren’t many big surprises among the circle-seeded heats for Saturday morning prelims at the FINA World Junior Swimming Championships in Indianapolis. The top 24 entrants in the women’s 50 back, men’s 50 fly and men’s 200 breast, as well as the top 16 in the women’s 400 free, are all expected to show up for their events. Only Faith Knelson of Canada, seeded #20 in the 200 IM, doesn’t appear on Saturday’s heat sheets. Knelson was entered in the 50-100-200 breaststroke events and the 200 IM. She won the silver medal in the 50m breast on Thursday night, and is the top qualifier for the 100m breast final on Saturday night. Presumably she plans to conserve her energy Saturday morning to make a run for the gold medal in that evening’s 100 breast final.

The only other notable absence is Great Britain in the men’s 4×200 freestyle relay. The British men had a relay in the entry book but were not assigned a lane in Saturday’s heats.
