Fast-Rising Freestyler Parker Neri Commits to Texas

Parker Neri, a senior from Upper Arlington High School and the Upper Arlington Swim Club in Columbus, Ohio has committed to the University of Texas for 2017-18. Neri told SwimSwam, “I am excited to announce my verbal commitment to the University of Texas. Texas has the perfect combination of high expectations in and out of the pool. The excellent coaching staff and team will allow me the opportunity to be the best swimmer I can be. Hook ’Em Horns!”

Neri is a fast-rising freestyler who has only just begun swimming year-round in a serious fashion. He has made vast improvements during his high school career in both short course yards and long course meters, although the latter is misleading because he only swam in a handful of LCM meets before the summer of 2016.

After finishing 21st and 19th in the 200 free and 500 free, respectively, at the Ohio State High School Division 1 Championships during his sophomore year, Neri took 5th in each of those events at the 2016 State Meet. Here are his times:

Junior year Sophomore year Freshman year
100y Free 46.47 49.81 55.56
200y Free 1:39.43 1:43.65 1:56.91
500y Free 4:28.26 4:35.09 5:07.54

In LCM, Neri’s best times come from the USA Futures Championships in College Park, Maryland:

  • 100m Free: 53.18
  • 200m Free: 1:54.28
  • 400m Free: 4:00.91

Neri will join the Longhorns with fellow verbal commits to the class of 2021: Austin Katz, Chris Yeager, Colter Carman, Johnthomas Larson, Luke Bowman, and Sam Pomajevich.
