TEAM SCORES

  1. Ohio State – 224
  2. Akron – 71

In their first home meet of the season, the Ohio State women handled in-state opponent Akron, posting a lopsided 224-71 victory.

Ohio State set the tone early, taking the 200 medley relay in 1:39.57. Nyah Funderburke led the team off in 25.18, followed by Josie Panitz with a very good dual meet split of 27.93 on breast, then Katherine Zenick with a 24.04 fly split, and a 22.42 anchor from Amy Fulmer.

Buckeye sophomore Gwen Woodbury put on a show in the 1000 free, speeding to victory with a 9:56.92. She threw down a massive negative split, going 5:00.64 on the opening 500, then turning it up a notch and coming home in 4:56.28. In a strong showing from Ohio State, Meredith Moellering took second in 10:10.91, while Mia Rankin was third with a 10:16.49.

Felicia Pasadyn continues to be a great pickup for the Buckeyes. After completing her undergraduate degree at Harvard, where she was one of the top swimmers in the Ivy League, Pasadyn is now in Grad school at OSU. In the 200 free yesterday, Pasadyn swam a 1:49.61, touching first by well over three seconds. Impressively, Pasadyn posted the fastest split in the field on all four 50s of the race.

Pasadyn would then go on to win the 500 free in dominant fashion, posting a 4:51.41. She swam a fantastic race, splitting 2:24.91 on the first 250, then coming home in 2:26.50. Buckeye freshmen Sanna Peterson and Lucy Malys had good swims as well, going 4:56.96 and 4:57.32 respectively.

Pasadyn would then cap off her meet with a 2:00.38 en route to winning the 200 IM. She was terrific on the first 100 of the race, splitting 25.98 on fly and 30.19 on back for a 56.17 at the 100.

This meet featured unique relays, including the 2×100 backstroke relay. Amy Fulmer clocked a 51.48 split going second on Ohio State’s ‘B’ relay. That’s a great dual meet time for Fulmer, even if it came in the second spot on a backstroke relay. Fulmer also had a good swim leading off in the 2×100 free relay, swimming a 49.18.

Akron’s Weronika Gorecka took the 200 back, swimming a 1:59.60. Gorecka took the race over on the second 50, then expanded her lead on the third.
