FGCU Elizabeth Zeiger Named CCSA Women’s Swimmer Of The Week

Press Release courtesy of FGCU Athletics

Sophomore Elizabeth Zeiger has been named CCSA Women’s Swimmer of the Week, league officials announced Tuesday.

Zeiger (Cumberland, R.I./Homeschool) earned two season-best times in her performance against Big 10 member Northwestern this past Sunday, finishing first in two of her three races, the 500 and 1000 yard freestyles. Zeiger’s time of 10:10.82 in the 1000 is the fastest in the conference this year by two seconds.

This Swimmer of the Week award marks the second of Zeiger’s young career. As a freshman, Zeiger swam a pair of runner-up finishes in the 500 and 1000 against top-5 nationally ranked, USC, to receive her first recognition. This season, FGCU has now earned a total of five weekly honors in two months of competition, including a sweep of awards following an in-state dual-meet in November with then #15 Florida.

To complete her freshman campaign, Zeiger earned CCSA All-Conference honors by winning the 500 free at the 2017 CCSA Championships in 4:49.93, setting a new personal best and 4th fastest in FGCU history. She also finished third in the 1650 free with a time of 16:58.50, good for 5th all-time in program history.

FGCU registered points at the NCAA Championships for the fourth-straight season and ultimately turned in its third-best finish all-time (T-41st). Prior to FGCU, Rollins was the associate head men’s swimming coach at Ohio State University and brought 10 years of coaching experience at the club, high school and collegiate levels. A standout collegiate athlete in his own right, Rollins was a nine-time NCAA All-American and national champion as a member of the University of Arizona swimming & diving team from 2002-06.
