Do you find Emails too impersonal and too easy to sweep under into the recycle bin? Feel like Tweets won’t reach the population that make decisions at major universities? Then let yourself be heard loud and clear – literally – by showing up at Maryland’s big rivalry meet against UMBC on Saturday in College Park at 1 PM Eastern Time.
We are calling out our readers. There has been a great response on the internet from supporters of the Maryland program, but it’s time to put boots on the ground. If you have young swimmers, if you are a fan of college swimming, if you are a Maryland alum or have a friend who has a child who hopes to swim in college one day, Annapolis is the place to be on November 12th.
Baltimore, we’re calling you and your 2.6 million people. College Park is only a 45-minute drive away, and that afternoon is going to be an experience that you’ll remember forever. D.C., you’ve got another 5.5 million in the metro area. Philly and Wilmington and Charlottesville, and everyone in between, be there. The Maryland Rec Center pool seats 1,200 people. If there are any less than 1,500 pounding down the door of the natatorium, I will be disappointed.
Bring a friend, bring a neighbor, bring your whole team. Youth basketball and football teams make outings to see their professional counterparts, swimmers have the same opportunity with college swimming. If 10 different club teams come out in force this meet, that’s already halfway to a sell-out crowd.
Yes, we are being pushy, but be there and be boisterous. You won’t regret it.
Saturday, November 12th, 1 PM Eastern Time – Maryland Rec Center.
