Fighting Irish Women, Men Release 2015-16 Schedules

University of Notre Dame swimming men’s head coach Matt Tallman and women’s head coach Mike Litzinger have released the meet schedule for their teams in 2015-16.

Both teams start the year off at home with the 51st Dennis Stark Relays, slated for Friday, October 9. Named for the first head coach of both teams, this year’s meet will mark the first time that Coach Stark will not be on hand to set off the opening race, as he passed away last December at the age of 92.

From there, the teams will leave for fall break training trips, with the men’s team trekking out to the Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs, Colorado and the women’s team traveling to Fort Myers, Florida, where they will face Florida Gulf Coast in a scrimmage on October 24.

Both teams return home to host Michigan State on October 30. The next day the women head to down to West Lafayette, Indiana to face Purdue and Ohio State in a triangle meet.

On November 6-7, the Irish square off with Pittsburgh and Virginia Tech at the Christiansburg Aquatic Center, giving both teams a chance to experience championship-style swim meets.

Both teams wrap up the fall schedule at the Boilermaker Invitational, held at the Boilermaker Aquatic Center from November 20-22. Afterwards, both the men’s and women’s squads will take a second training trip over Christmas break to get ready for the postseason.

The Irish start the new year in Virginia with a two-day meet scheduled January 8-9, returning to the Rolfs Aquatic Center January 16 to face Big Ten foe Northwestern. Both teams conclude the regular season at home January 29-30, with the Shamrock Invitational meet honoring the senior class.

The women’s team travels to Greensboro, North Carolina first, for the ACC Women’s Swimming and Diving Championships February 17-20. Both men’s and women’s diving will be contested during this time as well. The men’s team will fly down the following week, for the ACC Men’s Swimming Championships held February 24-27.

The women’s team will have a Last Chance Qualifier meet February 27-28, while the men’s team has their Last Chance Meet March 5-6. A location has yet to be announced.

The women’s season concludes at the NCAA Championships March 17-19 in Atlanta, Georgia at the Georgia Tech Campus Recreation Center. Coach Tallman’s squad will travel to Atlanta the following week March 24-26 for the men’s championship.
