FINA Announces Full Schedule for 2015 World Cup Series

FINA has announced the schedule for the 8 stops of the 2014 Swimming World Cup Series, the organization’s premier short course meters circuit.

This year’s series will come with a different order, including a return to non-Russian Europe when the series goes to France in mid-August.

Also new in this year’s series is a swap of the middle east stops (Doha and Dubai) from its traditional spot at the beginning of the series, which will now be held at the end of the series. The series will instead start in Europe, which is what we saw FINA do (with much success) in 2013 to take advantage of geographic proximity to the World Aquatics Championships.

The first series of the meet begins just two days after the completion of the World Aquatics Championships in Kazan, Russia, and FINA will hope to capitalize by grabbing the world’s best swimmers before the leave the region.

The move in Middle East dates means that the typical 106-degrees Fahrenheit average highs in August will become a much more manageable 85 degrees in November (though both the Doha and Dubai venues are indoors).

See the full 2015 series schedule below.

Date Location
August 11-12 Moscow (RUS)
August 15-16 Paris-Chartres (FRA)
September 25-26 Hong Kong (HKG)
September 29-30 Beijing (CHN)
October 3-4 Singapore (SIN)
October 28-29 Tokyo (JPN)
November 2-3 Doha (QAT)
November 6-7 Dubai (UAE)

In other words it is not Fina that hates the US so much as USA swimming does not court FINA.

It seems like USA swimming is biased towards amateur swimming specifically age group on one hand (where their revenue is made) or national meets like Olympics and Worlds on the other where athlete represents their country not the individuals financial interests so they seem rigged to maximize revenues while avoiding the payment of cash prizes or not allowing a culture of professional paid athletes to flourish domestically . The Grand prix ls are a joke you could make more money on tips at Starbucks than in a grand prix circuit. Also SCM undermines their business model as it has no relevance to club swimming.

FINA hates the US so much?

The question should be: why have US cities made so little to no efforts to be the hosts of world Cup series and world championships?
