The FINA congress has voted to allow for World Junior Records in short course meters.
Earlier this year, FINA voted to allow World Junior Records in long course, and set the World Junior Championship Records as the thresholds for breaking those records, In most cases, those World Junior Championship swims were not the fastest time done by a swimmer of the appropriate age, which resulted in those thresholds being quickly cleared.
There are no short course World Junior Championships to use as a starting point, however, so FINA will have to determine what the basis will be for beginning the Junior World Records in short course.
More details to come when FINA announces the full rules.
