FINA High Diving World Cup Opens in Abu Dhabi

ABU DHABI, United Arab Emirates – The FINA High Diving World Cup began Friday with the first two rounds of the women’s 20-meter and the men’s 27-meter competition.

Steve LoBue, who has medaled in three of his four previous High Diving World Cup appearances, finished the men’s 27-meter preliminaries at third with 191.00 points. He will continue competition Saturday as he contends for his fourth medal.

Through two rounds of the women’s 20-meter, Ellie Smart leads the U.S. women at third place with 138.30 points, just 3.20 points ahead of teammate and 2016 High Diving World Cup bronze medalist Ginger Huber, who currently holds fourth place. Katy Etterman finished Friday’s preliminaries at 11th with 62.85 points.

The FINA High Diving World Cup will resume Saturday, with the next two rounds of competition in the women’s 20-meter and the men’s 27 meter.
