Year of the Seahorse: FINA unveils Bahoor, 2014 World Champs mascot, in Doha

FINA’s 2014 Short Course World Championships will be represented by its new mascot, presented at the Doha World Cup stop yesterday.

Doha, Qatar, which will also host the world championships in December, is where Bahoor, a big blue-and-green seahorse, was presented to fans. The picture above is courtesy of @qatar_olympic on Twitter.

This year, FINA heads back to the realm of animals for its mascot, after last summer’s Barcelona Worlds were represented by a Xop, an anthropomorphic water droplet.

The seahorse will represent the Doha Games before relinquishing his or her duties to Itil and Alsu, the snow leopards chosen as mascots for next summer’s 2015 Kazan, Russia World Championships.

The short course World Championships will take place this December 3-7 in Doha, in the same facility that hosted the first World Cup meet over the past two days. Three world records were set in the pool, all three from series leader Katinka Hosszu.
