FINIS Set of the Week: Life in the FAST Lane

Set of the Week is courtesy of FINIS, a SwimSwam partner.

This week’s set comes from Randy Kasir, a former swimmer & current Business Development Representative for FINIS.

Combining equipment and speed work is a fine balance. Combining speed and equipment is a great way to get a full body workout, but it’s crucial to pick equipment that won’t interfere with proper technique at high speeds. We’ve put together this set to highlight the few pieces of equipment that trust, even at the fastest sets.

6 Rounds
Odd rounds = Free
Even Rounds = Stroke

6 x 25 Sprint with Freestyler Paddles (no paddles for stroke rounds) and PDF Fins
4 x 25 – Sprint with PDF Fins
2 x 25 – No equipment

I would think that the 2×25 swim would be fast as well. Trying to simulate swimming fast after taking all the equipment off. Maybe do a 100 ez in between rounds.

I do not mean to be antagonistic, but is this the best set someone can come up with? I mean it’s not a horrible set, but it lacks any sort of novelty that would warrant an article. These “Finis Set of the Week” articles are routinely rather uninventive, boring sets. Seems pointless.

I can see your point if you are not using the equipment specified in the set. But the set calls for their Positive Drive Fins that work with all kicks, and their paddles optimized for freestyle. As the copy above says, the equipment used here is meant for fast swimming without interfering with good technique. And you can’t swim any faster than with paddles and fins on!

And no, I have nothing to do with FINIS.
