Off topic, have there ever been any elite distance swimmers that were primarily sprinters in HS, but turned into an elite level distance swimmer?
Going down in distance, I know Ryk Neethling turned into an elite sprint freestyler for South Africa’s 400 FRR in 2004 splitting a 47 after being a multi time 500/1650 champ in college, and Justin Ress started off as a mid distanc/distance guy and is now a stud sprinter. I’m sure there are other examples but these ar here first two that come to mind.
I think it’d be hard to find guys who went sprint to distance imo. Distance guys usually still train with everyone else, at least up until college, which is mostly mid-distance. So would only take some specialization at that point, making it slightly easier to go distance to sprint. Going up would be much more challenging. Training for a 50/100 in high school is so much different than a 1650 in college.
I like that the picture is of one of the greatest sprinters of all time.
I wish I was able to vote that comment up more than once
lol. I was just thinking how Anthony dies at anything more than a 50 and here they have him in the banner for a mile.
Swimswam is clearly messing with us.
