Finland Set to Send 12 Swimmers to Kazan

The Finnish Swimming Federation has announced their roster for the World Championships in Kazan.

Out of the 12 swimmers that will be representing Finland at the competition five qualified with a FINA A standard, three were chosen by the federation based on the B standard while four athletes will be headed to Russia to swim on relays.

A standard

  • Mimosa Jallow
  • Veera Kivirinta
  • Jenna Laukkanen
  • Matias Koski
  • Ari-Pekka Liukkonen

B standard

  • Tessa Nurminen
  • Sami Aaltomaa
  • Matti Mattsson

Relay swimmers

  • Roosa Mört
  • Emilia Pikkarainen
  • Hanna-Maria Seppälä
  • Fanny Teijonsalo

At the 2013 World Championships in Barcelona the Finnish team had four swimmers qualify for the semi-finals including Anni Alitalo, Jenna Laukkanen, Hanna-Maria Seppälä and Eetu Karvonen.

Mattsson won the bronze in the 200 breaststroke setting a new Finnish record in the event posting a 2:08.95. Since that time his fastest performance in the event has been a 2:11.86 which he recorded in March of this year.
