Firestone Akron’s Jonny Marshall Clocks 55.30 100 Back, #9 All-Time 15-16 Boys

2021 SPEEDO SUMMER CHAMPIONSHIPS — GREENSBORO

MEN’S 100 BACK – PRELIMS

  1. Sam Stewart (YHF), 54.69
  2. Dylan Sali (SCAR), 55.27
  3. Jonny Marshall (FAST), 55.30
  4. Brendan Burns (ISC), 55.38
  5. Jacob Steele (ISC), 55.71
  6. Thomas Watkins (OSU), 55.91
  7. Tommy Janton (WEST), 55.94
  8. Colin McDermott (OSU), 56.09

In prelims of the men’s 100 back at the Greensboro site of the Speedo Summer Championships, Firestone Akron Swim Team 16-year-old Jonny Marshall finished 3rd in 55.30. The swim for Marshall was a lifetime best, coming in under his previous best of 55.58, which was swum 3 weeks ago, at the LE Sectionals.

In addition to the personal best, Marshall has now cracked the all-time top 10 for 15-16 boys in the LCM 100 backstroke, jumping over Carson Foster. Here is the current all-time top 10 for 15-16 boys:

Rank Time Swimmer Date
1 53.76 Ryan Murphy 6/5/2012
2 54.41 Conor Ferguson 4/28/2016
3 54.62 Michael Taylor 8/25/2015
4 54.74 Michael Andrew 8/25/2015
5 54.90 Daniel Diehl 5/1/2021
6 55.01 Logan McFadden 8/4/2017
7 55.02 Jack Conger 8/2/2011
8 55.04 Will Modglin 3/27/2021
9 55.30 Jonny Marshall 8/6/2021
10 55.37 Carson Foster 7/28/2018

There’s a pretty large gap between Marshall at #9, and Will Modglin at #8, so it will take a big best time tonight for Marshall to move up further on this ranking. Marshall has also swum lifetime bests in the men’s 200 back (2:02.34) and men’s 100 fly (55.30) already this week.

Is that meant to be US rankings or world?

Because I’m pretty sure Conor Ferguson is Irish.
