FIU Panthers Land Freestyler Marissa Martin

Conference USA Coach of the Year Randy Horner is building something fantastic at Florida International University.  In the five years that he has been at FIU, the Panthers have managed to claw their way to the top of the conference, taking their first title in 2015.  He has been quite the recruiter, landing top talent from all over the world, and you can bet he intends to keep his girls ahead of the rest of C-USA for as long as he can.

This week Randy picked up Marissa Martin from Anderson High and Kingfish Aquatic Club in Cincinnati, Ohio.  Marissa is the ECC Conference Record Holder in the 200 and 500 freestyles, ranking 7th in both events for the state of Ohio.

She looks like a distance specialist on paper, but her 200 time would have already made the B final at C-USA.  Her mile and 400 IM also have scoring potential as they are knocking on the door of scoring positions in the league.

Marissa is also an exceptional student, who holds a 4.2 GPA, is recognized as an AP Scholar, and Top Scholar Athlete.  She is also a member of National Honor Society, German National Honor Society, Spanish National Honor Society and the All-American Academic Scholar swim team.  She is also active as a peer counselor/mentor and a hospice volunteer.

Marissa says she is “VERY excited to be part of the FIU Panther team!! GO PANTHERS!”

Marissa’s top times:

200 free – 1:51.29

500 free – 4:58.14

400 IM – 4:35.03

1000 free – 10:21.18

1650 Free – 17:23.13
