FIU, SMU Earn Weekly AAC Swimming & Diving Honors

IRVING, Texas – The American Athletic Conference has announced the winners of the league’s weekly swimming and diving awards.

WOMEN’S SWIMMING ATHLETE OF THE WEEK
Jenna Watson, Junior, SMU
Watson and the Mustangs opened the season with the annual SMU Classic in Dallas this past weekend. The junior posted three times that rank first in The American, including the 200- and 400-yard individual medley and the 200-yard breaststroke, and one time that ranks second (100-yard breaststroke). Her 200 IM time of 2:04.04 ranks 31st in the nation this season, while her 400 IM time of 4:18.58 ranks 12th. In the breaststroke, Watson posted times of 1:03.13 in the 100 and 2:16.29 in the 200.

WOMEN’S DIVING ATHLETE OF THE WEEK
Maha Gouda, Graduate Student, FIU
Gouda repeats as Women’s Diving Athlete of the Week after winning both springboard events at the TYR Fall Classic in Miami, Fla. The graduate student won the 1-meter event with a score of 316.13 and claimed the 3-meter event with 321.83 total points. Both scores are tops in The American this season and are NCAA Zone Diving qualifying scores.

MEN’S SWIMMING ATHLETE OF THE WEEK
Colin Feehery, Senior, SMU
Feehery opened up the season with three NCAA ‘B’ Standard times at the SMU Classic in Dallas. The senior finished third in the 400-yard individual medley in a time of 3:46.44, which ranks fifth in the nation. He also ranks fifth in the country in the 200-yard breaststroke after finishing in a time of 1:57.56. His 100-yard breaststroke mark of 53.56 is good enough for ninth in the nation this season.

MEN’S DIVING ATHLETE OF THE WEEK
Peter Smithson, Senior, SMU
Smithson earned NCAA Zone Diving qualifying marks in both the 1-meter and 3-meter events at the SMU Classic in Dallas. The senior placed third in the 1-meter event with a score of 312.10 and finished third in the 3-meter event with 320.50 total points. Both scores lead The American this season.
