FIU Swim & Dive Announces 2024 Signing Class

MIAMI – The FIU women’s swimming and diving program added seven signees to the program for the fall 2024 campaign, with head coach Randy Horner bringing in six freshman and one transfer to bolster the squad.

“I’m excited for this signing class, we’ve checked a lot of boxes with this class,” said Coach Horner.” Each of these ladies will make an immediate impact on the AAC Conference next season.”

Among the newcomers are Claudia Frasca, Melina Giraudeau, Tawannah McLemore, Brooke Megdall, Sally Olsson, Av Osero, and Frida Stretre Lobersli.

Claudia Frasca | Freshman | Backstroke

Frasca is a native from Rome, Italy and specializes in the backstroke events. She currently trains with Circolo Canottieri Aniene. Her notable personal bests include 200 SCM (2:11.94), and 100 SCM (1:02.59)

Melina Giraudeau | Freshman | Breaststroke

Giraudeau is a breaststroke specialist from Bidart, France, currently training at Saint Raphael Natation. She is ranked in the top 10 in France for the 100 SCM breaststroke (1:09.56), 200 SCM breaststroke (2:26.65) and 200 LCM breaststroke (2:29.17).

Tawannah McLemore | Freshman | Sprint/Breaststroke

McLemore joins FIU from Pompano Beach, FL, where she is a three-time state finalist in the 50-free and a state finalist in the 100-breast. She currently trains for TS Aquatics and is ranked 14th in the state of Florida in the class of 2024. Personal bests include 200-breast (2:26.25) and 100-breast (1:03.29). At the FHSAA Class 4A State Championship she recorded a 23.12 time in the 50-free, second in the state.

Brooke Megdall | Freshman | Diver

Megdall is a diver from Windsor, Ontario, Canada, training with the Windsor Diving Club. She was awarded Dive Ontario’s 2023 George A. Tinnerman Award being named a 2023 Senior National athlete and was a 3x Junior National Championship athlete (2022, 2021, 2019).

Sally Olsson | | Freshman | Breaststroke

Hailing from Rydbohlom, Sweden, Olsson is a top breaststroker for Sweden and currently competes for Elfsborg. She is a member of the Swedish Jr. National Team competing in the 2022 and 2023 LEN: European Junior championships with personal bests in the 100 LCM breast (1:11.85) and 200 LCM breast (2:35.64)

Av Osero | Graduate Student | Diver

Osero joins FIU after spending four seasons at the University of Minnesota, where she is a two-time NCAA zone qualifier (2022, 2023) and a NCAA championship qualifier in 2023. The Neenah, Wisconsin native was a two-time Academic All-BIG 10 honoree, and CSCAA First team Scholar All-American. In addition, Osero was a 4x Wisconsin state high school champion at Neenah High School.

Frida Stretre Lobersii | Freshman | Butterfly, Breaststroke, Individual Medley

Stretre Lobersii is from Skjetten, Norway specializing in the butterfly, breaststroke, and indivudal medley events. She comepeted at this year’s Norwegian Short Course Nationals, including recording two silver medal finishes in the 50-breast, (31.15)  100-IM (1:02.81) and a bronze finish in the 100-butterfly (1:01.47).

The Panthers head to Florida Gulf Coast for a diving meet this Feb. 3 and the swimmers prepare for the American Athletic Conference Championships that begins on Feb. 22 – Feb. 25 from Dallas, Texas.
