Five Pool Records, One BC School Record, Fall During BC vs. Tufts Dual

CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. — In the final weekend of the 2021-22 regular season, the Eagles took down Tufts on Friday and Boston University on Saturday to conclude the season on a high note ahead of the ACC Championships in mid-February. On Friday at home, the women beat Tufts 231 to 68, with the men winning 203.5-96.5. On Saturday, the women beat the Terriers 181-119, with the men winning 211-88.

Five Boston College pool records fell on Friday night, along with one school record. Livy Poulin scored a 299.25 in the one-meter dive, resetting her own mark. On Saturday down Commonwealth Avenue at BU, two more school records were broken. Poulin broke her own record again with a 312.53, and Dale Nickerson set the new mark in the men’s one-meter dive with a 359.48, topping the previous best by 18 points.

To round out a dominant day from the diving team, Josiah Klock earned an NCAA Zone Cut in the one-meter (317.93) and three-meter (329.48) dives, and Angus Williams made the cut in the one-meter dive with a 321.45.

FRIDAY HIGHLIGHTS: 
• The women’s 200 Free Relay of Katie DrummHaley DolanGigi Baldacci, and Sofia Zinis set the pool record with a 1:34.15
• Ryan Mathis set the pool record in the 50 Breaststroke with a 26.05, breaking his own record
• Jack Doyle set the pool record in the 100 Individual Medley with a 51.76
• Andrew Blusiewicz set the pool record in the 400 Individual Medley with a 3:59.86, breaking his own record by nearly five seconds

Men’s Swimming

CHESTNUT HILL – Junior Peter LaBarge won the 50 freestyle and was second in the 100 free as the Tufts University men’s swimming & diving team returned to action on Friday night at Boston College.

LaBarge won the 50 free in 20.96 seconds, edging teammate Soeren Euvrard who touched in 20.98 seconds. The Jumbos had the top three finishers in the race as Alex Gu tied for third (21.52). In the 100 freestyle, LaBarge’s 46.38 time was behind only BC’s Sam Roche (46.05).

Senior Nate Tingen (pictured) had Tufts’ other victory in the 100 backstroke, recording a 51.26 time. He also swam a solid 23.81 in the 50 back. He and LaBarge handled the last two legs of the 200 freestyle relay, joined by Gu and Euvrard, for a runner-up 1:23.38 time to close the meet.

Freshman Emmett Adams timed 26.72 for second place in the 50 breaststroke. Junior Joshua Balbi also had a runner-up effort in the 100 butterfly (50.61), and his 22.98 was third in the 50 fly. Sophomore Joshua Huang‘s 53.86 in the 100 individual medley was a solid effort.

The Division I Eagles defeated Tufts 203.5-96.5 in the meet.

The Jumbos get right back at it tomorrow at MIT in a 1 pm start.

Women’s Swimming

CHESTNUT HILL – The Tufts University women’s swimming & diving team was in action for the first time in 2022 at Boston College on Friday night.

The 800 freestyle relay team of Katelin IsakoffAbby ClausClaire Brennan and Mary Hufziger got the meet off to a good start for the Jumbos. They finished second with a strong combined time of 7:39.03.

In the 50 butterfly, graduate student Mary Laurita finished in second place with a time of 26.26 seconds, while Jillian Cudney placed second place in the 50 freestyle with a time of 24.18 seconds. In the 50 breaststroke, it was Abby Miller who finished in second place, earning a time of 31.25 seconds.

Isakoff, along with being a part of the second-place 800 freestyle relay team, earned second place in the 500 freestyle with a time of 5:05.62.

Among some other top times for Tufts at the meet was Abby Claus in the 100 yard individual medley (1:00.55) and 100 backstroke (58.45), Lara Wujciak (pictured) in the 50 backstroke (27.57) and Laurita in the 100 butterfly (57.93).

Tufst fell to the Division I Eagles 231-68 in the meet.

Next, the Jumbos will travel to MIT on Saturday for a 1 pm start.
