Florida Distance Freestyler Sam Hartle Commits to FIT for 2017-18

Orlando, Florida’s Sam Hartle has committed to swim for Florida Institute of Technology’s class of 2021. Hartle is graduating from Lake Minneola High School and swims for the club team, NTC Aquatics, where he specializes primarily in distance freestyle.

“I am beyond excited to officially announce my commitment to swim at Florida Institute of Technology! I chose Florida Institute of Technology because of the incredible Computer Science department and the tight-knit environment of the swim team. FIT is the school where I see myself growing the most as a swimmer and as a person. Coach Andrade was very helpful and open with me throughout the recruiting process and I can’t wait to be a part of the team in the fall! Go Panthers!”

Hartle has had an excellent senior year, seeing improvement in his SCY 50/1000 free, 200 breast and 200/400 IM, as well as his LCM 50/100/200/400/800 free, 50 breast, 50 fly, and 400 IM. At the 2017 Florida Swimming Spring Senior Championships in February, Hartle placed 21st in the 200 free, 15th in the 1000 free, 12th in the 1650, and 18th in the 400 IM. His best SCY times are:

  • 1650 free – 16:18.60
  • 1000 free – 9:45.95
  • 500 free – 4:44.23
  • 200 free – 1:44.24
  • 400 IM – 4:09.50

Hartle would have scored at 2017 SSC Championships in the 1650 (13th), 1000 (14th), and 500 free (16th). He will be a helpful addition to the Panther squad after the departure of 2016-17 senior Ferruccio Rossi, who was FIT’s top scorer in the 1650. He will fit into the training group led by rising juniors Emanuele Rossi, Ferruccio’s younger brother, and Harry Sale.
